Smart Usage Rewards(Demand Response Program)

General Commercial Industrial Educational Institutions Retail Hospitality Healthcare

Turning down your lighting and HVAC systems during peak load times not only reduces demand on the system, but can earn you big rewards. We’re talking cash. The same goes for engaging battery backup power sources. Engage with the interactive below to learn how you can get involved.

Commercial real estate owners and managers are prime Smart Usage Rewards (Demand Response) participants. With the amount of energy they use, no wonder the commercial sector makes up 50% of Con Edison’s Smart Usage Rewards program enrollment.

Industrial facilities represent some of Con Edison’s largest Smart Usage Rewards (Demand Response) program participants. Energy-intensive equipment, advanced technical energy expertise and schedule flexibility can all help industrial facilities earn significant Smart Usage Rewards revenue.

Educational institutions often consist of different building types and equipment. Because of this, these facilities can combine a diverse set of energy reduction strategies to successfully participate in Con Edison’s Smart Usage Rewards (Demand Response) programs.

Retail buildings typically have standard energy loads. With this comes the opportunity to dim or turn off all non-essential lighting. And also to cycle refrigeration and HVAC units. These are just a few of the Smart Usage Rewards strategies (Demand Response) retail facilities can use to their advantage.

Hospitality facilities usually contain a large amount of common-area lights and equipment. As well as energy-intensive appliances and HVAC systems. All of which make them prime Smart Usage Rewards (Demand Response) candidates — helping to reduce operational costs while demonstrating corporate social responsibility.

Healthcare facilities are complex energy users. With significant backup generation and diverse equipment, they can successfully participate in Smart Usage Rewards (Demand Response) programs to help improve energy reliability in the community.

Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency Program Overview

Equipment Incentives and Measures

  • Blog Post
coned_logo_large

The Con Edison Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Energy Efficiency Program* offers cash incentives for installing energy-efficient electric and gas equipment and technologies. Energy efficiency can help improve your bottom line by reducing your energy use and maintenance costs while increasing your operating efficiency. These upgrades can also help protect the environment.

There are two pathways for both gas and electric customers: the prescriptive incentive path and the custom incentive path. The application process is simple. To get started, complete a short application, and speak with one of our dedicated Energy Advisors with any questions about your energy-efficiency project. Once the project is approved and completed, the incentive is mailed to the customer, or directly to the Market Partner, with customer approval.

Training and Webinar Recording

Attending a training session on Con Edison’s programs and on the Market Partner criteria is a requirement for maintaining your Market Partner status.  Click below to register for the upcoming Market Partner Training sessions:

Note: Space is limited. Registration and photo ID is required to get into the building. Attendance is not required if you already attended a training session.

Listen to our On Demand Webinar from January 11th discussing the 2018 program changes and updates.  You will need to register in order to view the Webinar recording.

1) Prescriptive Incentives

The Equipment Rebate program offers cash for the installation of standard energy-efficient equipment, including:

  • HVAC, Furnace, Boiler and Chillers
  • Lighting and Lighting Controls
  • Refrigeration
  • Non-Lighting Custom

2) Performance-Based Incentives for Other Measures (custom incentives)
Other energy efficiency upgrades not listed above (excluding lighting) may be eligible for performance-based Custom incentives at the rate of $0.16 per kWh and $600 per kW for electric and $2 per therm for gas, with payment based on estimated kWh and therm savings. Incentives are paid up to 50% of the customer’s project cost for eligible measure(s). Internal Labor costs will not be included with total project cost when calculating incentive caps. Total project incentives cannot exceed $1,000,000 for custom electric and $250,000 for custom gas. Material and Labor costs must be submitted to Con Edison for review and may be capped for incentive calculations at our sole discretion. Final custom measure eligibility, savings and incentives are determined at the sole discretion of Con Edison.

For complete customer and Market Partner eligibility and submission requirements please refer to the following documentation.
